FYI:

The Corps of Discovery had special instructions to send back
whatever ten-foot lions, giant sloths, and woolly mammoths they could find.

They ate more than 200 dogs over the course of their trip.
Most of the explorers preferred dog meat to venison.

Crossing the Rocky Mountains, almost out of bullets and little opportunity to hunt or forage,
the explorers resorted to eating their beef tallow candles.

The Expedition traveled approximately 8,000 miles.
